Group Sets Goal of 8,000 Valentines in Fifth
"Have a Heart for Chained Dogs" Week, February 7-14

Seeks Elementary School Students, Clubs, Groups, and
Individuals to Make Valentines for Delivery to Chained Dogs Nationwide

Altoona, PA, 6 January, 2007—Dogs Deserve Better, a nonprofit working to bring dogs into the home and family, has designated February 7-14th "Have a Heart for Chained Dogs Week," and has set a goal of 8,000 Valentines to be delivered to chained and penned dogs in its fifth year running the program. DDB is seeking students, groups, and individuals to participate by creating Valentines for the chained dogs and mailing them to the organization's headquarters in Tipton, Pennsylvania.

The group is raising awareness for chained and penned dogs in a positive way...by delivering Valentines, a brochure and a treat coupon to dogs living outside all over the U.S. and into Canada. In the 2006 "Have a Heart for Chained Dogs" campaign the group delivered 5277 Valentines to chained or penned dogs.

Tammy S. Grimes, founder of Dogs Deserve Better, states, "We were ecstatic last year to see an incredible response to our plea. We received a total of 5,971 Valentines from 119 different groups and individuals, along with some tremendously touching letters, such as this one from Jessica Smith of Illinois, who wrote: 'I work with chemically dependent males age 12-18, and I thought making Valentines for Dogs Deserve Better would be a wonderful way for them to tie service work into their treatment.'"

Another letter came from Brenda Trojanoski, Connecticut: "We are a 4-H group that loves dogs. Each Valentine was hand made by us, and pleads with the dog's owners to bring their dogs in. We know you will pass along these Valentines to the dogs who need them most."

Grimes continues,"The students and groups gain a sense of accomplishment from creating for the dogs, and our hope is that more and more dog caretakers are educated as a result of the children's efforts."

Valentines are needed at the Dogs Deserve Better headquarters in Tipton, PA by February 7th. The group is also seeking coupons for free or low-cost dog treats to include with their packets. To participate by creating Valentines or mailing coupons, send them to P.O. Box 23, Tipton, PA 16684. Interested parties may e-mail info@dogsdeservebetter.org, or call 814.941.7447 for further details.

Dogs Deserve Better invites volunteers and groups nationwide to deliver Valentines to local chained dogs. The group is greatly in need of addresses for chained/penned dogs, and sponsors for the program.
